MEET BEN

Ben warned me not to “put anything cheesy” on here, so I’ll do my best. He also said to be sure to tell families that he’s “sarcastic as hell, which gets me into trouble sometimes.” At age 17, Ben is the oldest of 4 boys, and he has spent much of his life caring for his younger brothers. He is currently learning how to be a brother rather than a parent, which is a challenge for him at times. He flourishes when taking care of younger children, and maintaining a strong relationship with his brothers is very important to him. Ben has varied interests, including longboarding, hiking, climbing, baseball, watching movies, doing puzzles, and listening to music. Since Ben is typically outgoing and likes social interaction, he is on the move a lot. He enjoys hanging out with friends and going to the mall, working, going to the movies and hanging out at the local community center. He has done well with holding down a couple jobs and is described as hard-working and motivated when it comes to working. He is interested in saving money for his future and getting his driver’s license.

A FAMILY FOR BEN

Ben needs a family who will have the patience to build trust with him over time and help him become more independent as he moves into adulthood. As one would expect given his past experiences, he can hold onto anger and gets anxious about opening up to others, but will share openly once trust has been built. He does well with set structure, follow through, and supportive direction and feedback.  Ben has a strong connection with his brothers and still feels a sense of responsibility for them, so a family for Ben will help him maintain and build his sibling relationships, including family therapy and frequent contact and visits. Ben says he is open to any family configuration, but notes he generally connects better with women. He likes the Duluth area, and would enjoy the opportunity to continue living there.
