Caregivers are invited to share their experiences and get support from other caregivers while youth participate in an activity supervised by Ampersand Families staff. Dinner is provided for all. SUMMARY:Supporting Transitions: Into Foster Care\, Between Homes\, Back to & Removal from Home
DESCRIPTION:Please join Foster Adopt MN (FAM) for an educational panel conversation about permanency transitions and insights. We will learn from youth who have experienced care and transitions into permanent homes. Ampersand Families staff members Jory Miller and Emily Lindell will facilitate the conversation. \nJory graduated from the U of M with his MSW in 2019 with a Families and Children concentration and as a IV-E scholar. Shortly after graduating\, he joined Ampersand Families with a strong passion to support youth in the child welfare system. He is driven to provide education\, connection\, and resources to the families and youth working towards permanency. \nAt Ampersand Families\, Jory is passionate about healthy\, empathetic communication and building a bridge between youth and their birth family. Using best practices and culturally competent tools\, he strives to create permanent connections for all youth he works with. Jory is particularly passionate about working with LGBTQ youth and youth and families in rural areas. \nJory believes all youth and families should be served with dignity and respect and strives to meet the needs of every unique identity his clients bring to the agency. \nEmily was excited to join Ampersand Families in August 2020. She brings a multi-disciplinary background that includes everything from working at an LGBTQ youth community center to facilitating support groups for survivors of sexual violence. \nEmily has experience working in Minneapolis and St Paul nonprofits plus a decade with organizations in and around Bemidji\, Minnesota. She places a high value on racial equity\, centering youth voices\, and trying to live out the maxim “Nothing about us\, without us\, is for us” when it comes to the impact of youth expertise on the child welfare system. \nEmily is passionate about collaborating with young people to enact the MYVoice values of Connection\, Education\, and Change.
