Elizabeth (Libby) Onchiri, MSW, LICSW (she/her) – Senior Permanency Specialist

Libby was very pleased to join Ampersand Families in June of 2021. She came to social work “later in life,” completing her graduate degree from the University of Minnesota in 2014 with a focus on public child welfare. Since then, she has worked in various foster care and adoption roles. Libby loves working with all members of the adoption constellation whether it be at the very beginning of their journey or many years later. In 2019, she completed the Permanency and Adoption Competency Certificate (PACC) program through the University of Minnesota.

Foster care and adoption has always been an important part of Libby’s life. While she was an only birth child to her parents, she had many foster siblings growing up and treasures connections to them to this day. Libby has one daughter by birth and one by adoption through foster care. Both are now strong young adult women and Libby is just so proud of them. A big recent development for Libby was becoming a grandma and sure enough, it is more fun than she ever could have imagined!

Libby lives in the twin cities with her partner, Wes, her mom, and the family’s 12-year-old golden retriever, Millie.

Our Mission

The mission of Ampersand Families is to provide permanency and adoption services to older youth and families who face barriers to equity in child welfare, and to champion systemic changes that advance belonging, dignity and hope.
