Family Permanency Specialist
she/her
Sophia is set to graduate from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in May 2024 earning a B.S. in Family Social Science with a concentration in Family Therapy. Sophia is dedicated to advocating for the emotional well-being of youth and supporting families through life transitions and adversity. Before coming to Ampersand Families, Sophia held a variety of roles focused on understanding family dynamics, adolescents’ social, emotional, and behavioral development, and the impact childhood experiences have on adulthood.
In her most recent position as a research assistant, Sophia developed studies aimed at improving youth mental health outcomes through youth mentoring programs. She assessed the impact trusting adult relationships have on youth mental health and contributed to the development of improved community supports. Sophia also created culturally competent, mental health-informed curricula for training both youth and adults passionate about offering mental health support.
Sophia is ecstatic to be joining the Ampersand Team and looks forward to providing dynamic and informed support to families navigating the adoption permanency process. She enjoys recognizing the individuality of each family she works with and seeks to understand the key aspects that characterize a family’s structure and functioning. In her role as a Permanency Specialist, Sophia aspires to make families feel seen, supported, and prepared to navigate challenges collectively as they undergo significant changes and develop new routines. Sophia is overjoyed to have found a family of her own in the Ampersand staff and takes pride in the organization’s values and standards.
In her free time, you can find Sophia painting, reading, or trying to clip her cat’s nails. She also loves spending time with her parents, siblings, friends, and their pets! Sophia continues to volunteer as a research assistant through the University of Minnesota where she documents available youth mental health resources and treatment options throughout the state of Minnesota to help identify gaps in mental health support for adolescents.
