Emily was excited to join Ampersand Families in August 2020. She brings a multi-disciplinary background that includes everything from working at an LGBTQ youth community center to facilitating support groups for survivors of sexual violence.
Emily has experience working in Minneapolis and St Paul nonprofits plus a decade with organizations in and around Bemidji, Minnesota. She places a high value on racial equity, centering youth voices, and trying to live out the maxim “Nothing about us, without us, is for us” when it comes to the impact of youth expertise on the child welfare system.
Emily is passionate about collaborating with young people to enact the MYVoice values of Connection, Education, and Change. When she is not facilitating MYVoice, Emily loves to take long bike rides, garden, cook, and play roller derby.
The mission of Ampersand Families is to provide permanency and adoption services to older youth and families who face barriers to equity in child welfare, and to champion systemic changes that advance belonging, dignity and hope.
